Former Marist and Fiji Under 20 gamebreaker Manasa Mataele caught the eye of New Zealand club scouts after his standout performance in a losing Fiji Under 20’s team.

By 2016 he was in the Mitre 10 cup for Taranaki and by the end of that year he had signed a Super Rugby contract with the Crusaders.

Things were on the up for Mataele up until a serious knee injury ended his 2019 season early, coincidentally paving the way for fellow Fijian winger Sevu Reece.

In 2021 Mataele looks on track to regain the scintillating form he showed before his injury which included incredible offloads and beating defenders with ease.

The Lau native with maternal links to Yasawa-I-Rara was selected for the Flying Fijians in the Steinlager Series where he played both matches against the All-Blacks.

He’s in the NPC with Canterbury and will play for the Western Force in 2022.
