2018 Pro D2 Winner – Perpignan
Nominee Centre of the year 2021
Castres centre Adrea Cocagi is known for his powerful carries and physicality. He is a former Fiji Under 20’s representative and former Under 20’s Captain who is a consistent performer in the Top 14.
The Serua native was only 18 when he played for L’Aquila in the Top Italian Division in 2012 after he nearly signed with NRL Newcastle. A year later he found himself playing for Stade Francais in the Amlin Challenge Cup and Heineken Cup.
Embed from Getty ImagesIn 2014 he signed with Tarbes in the Pro D2 where he would spend 2 seasons playing 37 matches and scoring 6 tries. From 2016-2020 he plied his trade with Perpignan where he racked up 81 matches and 17 tries and really establish his name in French Rugby.
2020 he would start his journey with Castres in the Top 14 where he would play alongside Filipo Nakosi, Vilimoni Botitu and this season Josaia Raisuqe.
This season he has played all but 1 match for Castres, starting 4 matches. He has been consistently good and his club whether he starts or comes off the bench. Cocagi is one of the players I mentioned in the Flying Fijians Northern Tour article as I believe he deserves to be looked at as he is constantly overlooked. At 27 he is playing some of his best rugby.
At 6’1 and 106kg, he would be very hard to stop for any defender, especially close to the line. His power game coupled with his offloading ability would be a real asset to the test squad.
Cocagi attended Lomary Secondary and his family hail from Nuku in Serua.
