A gamebreaking Centre with a lethal blend of speed and athleticism. Masi won Gold at the 2021 Olympics before transitioning to Rugby League. He signed with the Fijian Drua in 2023 and heads to France to join Lyon for his first Top 14 season.

Former Fijian Drua Centre Iosefo Masi’s first Top 14 season has been cut short due to a broken forearm suffered in the first half of Lyon’s match against Clermont last weekend. He underwent surgery on Tuesday and is now in recovery. It also rules him out of the Flying Fijians test selection at least until the PNC in September.

Masi scores 2 as Lyon go 3 from 3

Iosefo Masi had a breakout performance for Lyon in their round 3 clash with Stade Francais.

He scored his first try in the 37th minute after a neat trick play from the scrum, shooting through the defensive line and stepping the fullback to score.

In the 48th minute good defensive pressure resulted in a dropped ball and a runaway try for the former Fijian Drua 13.

He also set up another try later in the game after taking the ball from the lineout and offloading to his support player to score.

He made 6 carries for a match high 100 metres, 2 linebreaks and a match high 7 defenders beaten.

The home side led 40-23 into the final quarter but a couple of quick tries to the visitors brought them right back into the match and a chance to steal the game. However Lyon held on to win 42-37.

Lyon are the only undefeated side after the opening 3 weeks and sit alone at the top of the ladder. That record will be tested next weekend on the road against the 3rd placed Pau.

Wainiqolo stuns in Lyon debut

Jiuta Wainiqolo made his official debut for Lyon in their round 2 clash against Montauban. He set up a try for Iosefo Masi who was also on debut.

In typical Wainiqolo fashion, he beat several defenders, weaving through traffic and brought down 10 metres out, two passes right and Masi had his first Top 14 5 pointer.

Wainiqolo would then score his own try 20 minutes later, outpacing his winger and beating the fullback with his footwork, running the best part of 60 metres to score.

He ran for a match high 142 metres and beat the most defenders with 5.

Montauban winger Josua Vici also had a big game for the home side, making 100 metres, scoring a try and being impactful with every run, even making positive impacts defensively.
