Meli “The White Shark” Derenalagi, a nickname shared with his father, former 7s rep Ratu Vuniani Derenalagi. Meli is known for his sublime skill and offloading ability.
Derenalagi had a huge 2019 where has was promoted to the Sevens sqaud and ultimately becoming a core member of the team, being named in the World Dream Team and winning the World Sevens Rookie of the year award. To top that all off, Meli was promoted to Able Seaman rank in the Fiji Navy.
Meli is all but certain to find a spot in the squad for the Tokyo games barring injury or suspension.

He is one of the staples in the Fiji Sevens side and one of the first man picked. He has shown maturity beyond his years and is set for bigger and better things in the future. We see him as a possible captain for the Flying Fijians one day.
