A physical and mobile backrower. Thompson is a former Rugby League player who converted to the 15 man game and played his first Super Rugby season in 2025.
Josh Thompson got his 2nd straight start for Grenoble, at openside Flanker against Beziers.
Grenoble came into the match with only 1 win in their last 5 outings and were desperate to get their season back on track. Against a Beziers side suffering from three straight defeats, this was probably the game to do it.
Thompson was one of the home sides best on the night. He made several big carries, a total of 10 runs on the night. Twice he was hit high, one in a tackle and once in the ruck but soldiered on for a 70 minute performance.
He made 12 tackles defensively and led the way with tackle dominance with 3 dominant tackles to his name.
After making his debut in round 8, Josh Thompson was handed his first starting jersey for Grenoble, starting at Openside Flanker against Soyaux Angoulame.
He made 10 carries for 18 metres, beat 3 defenders and made 7 tackles with 2 dominant tackles.
Grenoble had the lions share of possession especially in the final 10 minutes as they tried desperately to score a go-ahead try but the home side held firm even past the 80 minute mark to win 34-28.
Josh Thompson made his Pro D2 debut for Grenoble in their round 8 clash against Carcassonne.
He started on the bench and made his entry in the 45th minute and made a solid contribution. 10 carries for 44 metres, beat 4 defenders while making 4 tackles and winning 1 turnover.
It was a much needed win for Grenoble who came into the match on the back of 3 straight losses. They were far too good for the visitors, winning 57-12.
Former Western Force backrower Josh Thompson has signed with Pro D2 finalists Grenoble.
“He is described as a “dynamic” player and capable of “hitting hard” by his current coach Simon Cron. He also has the advantage of being able to jump out of bounds. This season, the Suva native, who went through a training program in Australia, has been used three times off the bench (41 minutes played). During this season, he suffered a long-term shoulder injury.” – Rugbyrama
