The Pro D2 is the secondary rugby competition in France. It features 16 teams with a promotion relegation system. A total of 48 players are of Fijian heritage or nationality. This page is dedicated to their progress throughout the season.

Bituniyata double not enough in Oyonnax loss

Setareki Bituniyata scored 2 tries for Provence in their loss to Oyonnax.

The first came in the opening minute with the home side looking to score the opening points but their attacking raid was snuffed out by the former Toulouse winger who took an intercept and ran 90 metres untouched.

His second try was just before halftime, from close range he picked up from the base of the ruck, and fought off 3 defenders to touch down.

The home side kicked 2 penalties in the final 15 minutes to win 30-25.

Dax end 3 game losing streak with a big win

Dax were finally on the right side of the scoreboard in round 8 after 3 winless matches, defeating Beziers in impressive fashion 40-5.

Winger Jope Naseara scored the first try of the night and his 2nd 5 pointer for the season in the 13th minute when he dove over in the right corner, finishing off from close range.

A welcomed result for the home side but they still sit at the bottom of the Pro D2 heading into week 9.

Soyaux cause major boilover in Brive

Soyaux Angoulame caused the biggest upset of the round on Friday night, defeating Brive on their own turf - the first team to do so this season and end their 4 game losing streak.

Veteran Centre Ledua Mau scored in the 35th minute when he chased through on a perfectly weighted chip kick into the Brive in-goal area.

While he didn't see much in terms of attack, he was busy defensively churning out 11 tackles for the night.

It was a much needed win for Soyaux who move 4 points clear of the relegation zone and into 13th place.

Mailulu scores in Beziers home loss

Petero Mailulu scored his 2nd try of the season for Beziers who suffered a disappointing home loss to Valence 29-37.

Despite leading early, the home side gave up the lead in the 34th minute and played catch-up for the remainder of the game.

Mailulu scored the final try in the 82nd minute with the result locked in for the visitors.

Muntz stars on debut

Former Fijian Drua flyhalf Caleb Muntz made his much anticipated debut for Provence in their round 7 clash with Nevers.

At home in front of a boisterous crowd, it didn't take long for Muntz to make an impact, setting up the first try in the 4th minute.

20 minutes later he went over for his own 5 pointer after some quick thinking by his halfback Arthur Coville.

Provence would go on to win the match despite taking their foot off the gas in the 2nd half. Final score 39-33.

Brive comeback to defeat Oyonnax

Brive came back from a 13 point deficit in the first half to defeat Oyonnax 33-18.

Coming off a stirring home win over Grenoble last weekend, Brive were shocked with an early try to the visitors followed by 2 penalties before the home side scored their first points in the 22nd minute.

Winger Asaeli Tuivuaka scored his 2nd try in 2 weeks, finishing off a backline movement in the 48th minute.

He finished the game with the most metres - 84 from 13 carries and 5 defenders beaten.

Naseara scores in Dax loss to Vannes

Jope Naseara scored his opening try of the season for Dax in their home match against Vannes on Friday.

The home side trailed 10-0 after 30 minutes before the Nadi native playing in only his 2nd match since returning last week, powered through several defenders to score a much needed 5 pointer.

Dax eventually took the lead in the 63rd minute 15-13 before a late penalty gave Vannes a 1 point lead (16-15) and ultimately, the win.

Sovau makes Pro D2 debut

Former Wests Tigers SG Ball Prop Jekope Sovau made his Pro D2 debut on Friday night (Saturday morning FJT) for Dax in their round 5 clash with Provence.

He was named on the bench and made his entry into the game in the 60th minute.

Provence were too strong for the visitors, winning 42-15.

Brive bounce back with win over Grenoble

Brive hosted Grenoble in round 5 in a clash of heavyweights.

The home side conceded the first points, a penalty to Grenoble before scoring 2 tries in 8 minutes including the first 5 pointer of the season for winger Asaeli Tuivuaka.

Neither side came into the match with the type of consistency that saw them go deep into the finals last season but both sides came out firing for this encounter.

Brive won the game 24-21.

Tuisue scores first try for Provence

Albert Tuisue scored his first Pro D2 try for Provence who notched their second win of the season - over Dax 42-15.

The home side were awarded a penalty try after only 4 minutes and 3 minutes later they found themselves in a similar situation, with a rolling maul close to the Dax tryline. They pushed over once again and this time Tuisue got the ball down.

Dax kept things competitive in the first half but couldn't contain the home side in the 2nd half.

Agen make it 4 straight

Agen won their 4th consecutive match on Friday morning after defeating Beziers 21-10.

It was an old fashioned slugfest in the first half with neither side scoring a try, the only points via a penalty goal to Beziers.

1 minute into the second half Agen would finally score the first try of the night through veteran Centre Kolinio Ramoka. Stepping off his left foot near the opposition tryline, he beat 3 defenders on his way to score his 2nd try in as many games.

Bituniyata star showing for Provence

Setareki Bituniyata put in a career performance this morning for Provence who were big winners over Biarritz 52-10.

The former Toulouse flyer scored 3 tries, set up 2 more, ran for nearly 160 metres and beat 10 defenders.
He was also denied a try and another try assist!

It was his 2nd match for the club since making his first appearance last weekend and the Nadroga native delivered a 5 star effort.

Missing for Provence was Albert Tuisue and Johnny Dyer for Biarritz.

Kuruisaqila makes Pro D2 debut

Congratulations to Apisalome Kuruisaqila on making his Pro D2 debut. The 23 year old backrower started on the bench and entered the game in the 47th minute.

It was a surprise loss considering Beziers, a usual finals team against Aurillac who had to play to remain in the competition this year. Final score 24-49.

Mosese Mawalu made his first appearance for Valence this season and scored a try in the 53rd minute when he powered through several Brive defenders from close range.

However it would be their only try of the night, losing 48-10.

Oyonnax Centre Edward Sawailau scored his first try of the season after running a great line into the teeth of the Colomiers tryline defence, powering over in the 55th minute.

It was Oyonnax' first win after losing both their opening matches.

Carcassonne couldn't keep their momentum going from last weekend's win over Oyonnax, losing to Nevers 17-26.

New recruit Tevita Railevu playing his first competition match for Carcassonne finished off some beautiful lead up work from his fullback to race in and score his first try for the club.

In a surprise result this morning Beziers suffered a heavy defeat to Aurillac 49-24.

Ramoka scores first for the season

Agen have put their disappointing round 1 result behind them with back-to-back wins, this time taking down last year's grand finalists Grenoble 38-20.

Centre Kolinio Ramoka sliced through the Grenoble defence early in the 2nd half to score his first try of the season.

Agen jump up several spots into 3rd position after round 3.

Pro D2 round 2 wrap

Round 2 of the Pro D2 wrapped up this morning;

Johnny Dyer started at lock for Biarritz who were heavily beaten by Colomiers 44-10.

Grenoble are equal first after 2 rounds after a 38-16 win over Aurillac. Kaminieli Rasaku with a game high 4 linebreaks and 9 defenders beaten. Simeli Yabaki made his first appearance of the season for the visitors.

Viliame Tutuvuli was yellow carded for an obstruction in Carcassonne's upset victory over Oyonnax 19-17. He was solid nonetheless with 3 linebreaks. Edward Sawailau started at Centre for the Oyomen.

Petero Mailulu made his season debut in Beziers big win over Nevers 49-12.

Taniela Sadrugu saw 10 minutes in the bin for a cynical tackle in Brive's 23-8 win over Dax and a couple minutes later Josaia Nacika (Dax) was red carded for a high tackle. He now has a yellow and a red in the first 2 rounds. Asaeli Tuivuaka started on the wing outside Etonia Bainivalu at Centre while Jale Vatubua started at 12 for Dax.

Albert Tuisue came off the bench for Provence who lost 30-33 to Valence while Setareki Bituniyata made his debut on the left wing.

Kitione Kamikamica made his return for Vannes, they defeated Soyaux who had Nemani Kurucake come off the bench. Final score Vannes 28-9.

And usual Centre Nacani Wakaya started at Flanker for Mont de Marsan who were heavily beaten 53-7 by Agen who had Kolinio Ramoka on their bench.

The 2025-2026 Pro D2 season is underway with 43 Fijians across 16 teams.

Former Fijian Drua lock Ratu Leone Rotuisolia lines up for Oyonnax, Albert Tuisue and Caleb Muntz for Provence amongst many more in what promises to be an exciting season.

Dyer first Fijian to score in new Pro D2 season

Johnny Dyer is the first Fijian to score in the new Pro D2 season, crossing in the 68th minute of Biarritz season opener against Beziers.

He started on the bench and entered the match in the 53rd minute, powering over from close range 15 minutes later.

It was a high scoring affair and the visitors were heavily favoured but the home side were too good in a high scoring affair, winning 55-36.

Former Soyaux Angoulame Number 8 Alex Masibaka will wear the Scotland jersey for the first time in their match against the Maori All-Blacks on Sunday morning.

Although not an official Test, the speedy backrower gets to test himself at International level against a Tier 1 team.

Seru joins Mont de Marsan on loan deal

Mont de Marsan has acquired the services of promising young Centre Tomasi Seru from La Rochelle for the 2025/2026 season on a loan deal.

Seru made his Top 14 debut in round 6 against Bayonne, coming off the bench and lining up against Manu Tuilagi. Stuck behind more established Centres, the powerful runner will gain valuable game time and experience in the Pro D2.

Mont de Marsan finished a disappointing 13th place last season after a promising 2023 campaign which saw them 1 game shy of the Grand Final.

Perpignan staying in Top 14

Perpignan have defeated Grenoble in a a thrilling contest 13-11 to retain their place in the Top 14. Winger Tavite Veredamu scored his sides only try after only 2 minutes. The match turned into a tight tussle with the lead changing several times. A penalty goal in the 77th minute gave USAP a 2 point lead and ultimately the win.

Muarua returns for one last match

Grenoble have named Pio Muarua at Number 8 in tomorrow morning's access match against Perpignan, his first match since round 22 in late February. It will also be his last match for the club as he signed with Clermont for the next 2 seasons.

Grenoble are in the same position for the 3rd straight year, playing for a place in the Top 14 after losing the Pro D2 final.

Tuisue extra physical in loss to Oyonnax

Albert Tuisue took on the role of “enforcer” as Provence faced rivals Oyonnax in round 8. The Kadavu native turned up the physicality meter with some heavy hits in defence.

A total of 13 tackles with some big carries and great work at the breakdown.

He was a surprise omission from the Flying Fijians November tour named by head coach Mick Byrne earlier in the week and maybe that played into him having a big performance.

The match was tight right till the end but the home side managed to keep Provence scoreless in the final 15 minutes whilst kicking 2 penalties to get the the win 30-25.

Nacika to leave Dax and French competitions

Rugged loose forward Josaia Nacika will leave Dax and all French competitions after his application for visa renewal was denied.

Off-field issues which landed him in court was the determining factor along with the lack of dependant family also not helping his case to remain in France.

Where-to next for Nacika is yet to be determined, possibly a return to Fiji if he is unable to pick up a contract outside of France.

Sikeli Nabou played his first match of the season, returning in round 3 for Soyaux who were beaten in their last match against Vannes.

The home side were behind 10-0 but eventually found their rhythm, coming on strong in the second half and ultimately a 28-23 win over the visiting Dax.

Thompson signs with Grenoble

Former Western Force backrower Josh Thompson has signed with Pro D2 finalists Grenoble.

“He is described as a “dynamic” player and capable of “hitting hard” by his current coach Simon Cron. He also has the advantage of being able to jump out of bounds. This season, the Suva native, who went through a training program in Australia, has been used three times off the bench (41 minutes played). During this season, he suffered a long-term shoulder injury.” – Rugbyrama
