Alex Masibaka was rewarded for his strong form with his first starting jersey for Montpellier against Racing 92.

He’s had a strong start to his Top 14 career, playing in every match since round 2 and making a big impact off the bench.

However he fairly well contained against Racing, making a modest 22 metres from 6 carries but was busy as usual defensively making 9 tackles and the only MHR player to register a dominant tackle.

Alex Masibaka started on the bench for Montpellier in their home match against La Rochelle. He was called on earlier than expected, in the 32nd minute of what would be a 37-13 win.

He made 4 carries for 21 metres but it was in defence where he made his biggest impact. A match high 14 tackles from 14 attempts. He also recorded 1 dominant tackle, 1 turnover and a try assist.

After 4 matches this season, he sits at an impressive 94% tackling efficiency.

Montpellier put the competition on notice with a big win over heavyweights Toulouse 44-14.

Alex Masibaka started on the bench as he did in his return last weekend. He entered the game earlier than expected, Montpellier forced to bring him on 3 minutes before halftime.

He made a match high 13 tackles, 2 of which were dominant with no misses defensively.

Although they lost their opening 2 matches, results were encouraging for Montpellier and the win over Toulouse really gives them new hope of a revival and return to finals this season.

Alex Masibaka started on the bench in his first match for Scotland. He was required early, in the 28thh minute and was yellow carded 3 minutes later after numerous penalties against the visitors forced the referee to reach into his pocket.

He made a solid contribution with 33 metres from 5 carries and an equal game high 17 tackles.

Maqala returns, scores for Bayonne

After missing Bayonne's season opener last weekend, star Centre Sireli Maqala made his return and made an immediate impact, scoring their opening try in the 12th minute of their clash against Montpellier.

Bayonne are 2 from 2 to start their 2026 campaign.

Alex Masibaka also made his return for Montpellier, coming off the bench and had a solid hitout, making 40 metres and beating 4 defenders.

Masibaka to play first match for Scotland

Former Soyaux Angoulame Number 8 Alex Masibaka will wear the Scotland jersey for the first time in their match against the Maori All-Blacks on Sunday morning.

Although not an official Test, the speedy backrower gets to test himself at International level against a Tier 1 team.
