Clermont put the competition on alert after a thorough drubbing of a Castres side that was running hot on the back of 3 straight wins.

Pio Muarua started at Number 8, the first starting jumper in the Top 14 despite a couple of games for Agen nearly a decade ago now.

It was a disruptive first game for the Yasawa native, called off a couple a times in the game and put back into the action on both occasions. On his final stint however he powered over from close range, reaching over the tryline to plant the ball down and almost losing it in the process.

Nevertheless the try stood and it was a solid first start for the powerful backrower in what turned out to be a big night for the home side, coming away with a 63-14 win. Its his first try in the competition and also for his new club.

For the third consecutive year Grenoble have lost their access match into the Top 14, this time against Perpignan 11-13. Muarua made his return to the side and also started at Number 8. He had a couple of drops in the first half but was solid all-round.

The match also serves as his final match for the club as he joins Clermont next season.

Trio score in big Clermont win

Clermont put in their best performance of the season against Castres, putting the visitors to the sword 63-14.

Fijian trio Pita Gus Sowakula, Pio Muarua and Alivereti Loalo (pictured) all scored for the home side.

Sowakula went over in the 60th minute from a lineout maul before Muarua scored on virtually the same spot through a pick-and-go in the 74th minute.

3 minutes later Loaloa gathered a neat little grubber behind the Castres defence to score under the posts.

For both Muarua and Loaloa, it's their first competition try for their new club.

Sowakula now joins the Flying Fijians for his first tour with the national team.
