The National 1 is the third tier rugby competition in France. It features 14 teams with a promotion relegation system. A total of 25 players are of Fijian heritage or nationality. This page is dedicated to their progress throughout the season.
Former Fijian Drua Centre Apisalome Vota joins Rouen Normandie in the National 1 for 2 seasons. Vota’s last match for the Drua was in round 10 of the 2024 season and made his test debut later in the year against Samoa in the PNC. A move to Japan was first rumoured but never eventuated and he has been left without a club for nearly 12 months.
Rouen finished as Semi Finalists in their first year back in the National 1 after relegation from the Pro D2.
Flying Fijians captain Waisea Nayacalevu has announced his retirement from international rugby. The 40 capped Centre made the announcement via social media post.
“This is not an easy decision — because rugby has been more than just a game to me. It’s been my passion, my purpose, and my teacher. It has taken me around the world, allowed me to form lifelong bonds, and given me the honour of standing shoulder to shoulder with warriors who bleed for this nation.”
Saimone Qeleca has signed with CS Bourgoin for the 2025/2026 National 1 season. It’s his first time in the competition having played in the lower grades and is a major step-up for the 28 year old who is a favourite on the French Super Sevens competitions over the past few years.
Inoke Nalaga will line up for Nice in the upcoming National 1 season. He leaves Agen after 5 years where he played 12 games over a 4 season span.
He showed glimpses if what he is capable of at times but opportunities came by far too rarely for the talented outside back.
He joins Waisea Nayacalevu, Christa Powell, Masivesi Dakuwaqa and Simeli Tuiteci at the club who will be one of the leading contenders.
Savenaca Rawaca has signed with CS Bourgoin-Jallieu, ending his time with Tarbes after 2 seasons.
His time at Tarbes was his best back-to-back seasons since early in his career, putting together 45 games over the 2024 and 2025 campaign, scoring 3 tries in each year.
He joins newcomer Meli Turagaca, Joe Ravouvou and Saimone Qeleca at Bourgoin.
Joeli Matalaweru has signed with rival National 1 club CA Perigueux for the upcoming season, leaving Tarbes after 1 season.
It was his most productive season to date, playing in 17 matches and scoring 1 try. Previously he featured only twice for Brive in the Challenge Cup.
