Former Flying Fijians flanker Semisi Naevo was known for his athleticism, his reliability in defense and punishing opposition players. His nickname is “Man Mountain”
Semisi first represented Fiji on the Sevens scene in 2002. After impressing he was selected in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in which he won a silver medal. He would win another medal in 2006, this time bronze at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games along with winning the Sevens Series in the same year.
In 2005 however, Naevo was a starting forward in one of the greatest Sevens side ever assembled. He helped the side to victory with Fiji claiming it’s second World Cup and Semisi scoring a try in the final.
His career would only got better as he was selected for the Flying Fijians in 2006 and would make a total of 9 appearances up until 2008.
To add to his Sevens feats, Naevo was a member of the historic Fiji RWC side of 2007 that advanced to the RWC Quarter Finals and 2008 Pacific Islands Tour of Europe.Embed from Getty Images
He leaves a lasting legacy as being part of two of Fiji’s greatest ever sides in both Sevens and Fifteens.
The Fiji Rugby Legend earned his Bachelors degree (with honours) at the University of Auckland and is a business man now in his retirement.
