2022 Pro D2 Equal Fijian Top Tryscorer – 9
Niko Matawalu first appeared for Fiji on the Sevens circuit. He later gained a contract for Scottish premiership side Stirling County and worked his way to a full professional gig at the Glasgow Warriors.
He is known for his athleticism, acceleration and elusiveness. Niko can play either scrum half, winger or fullback.
Embed from Getty ImagesMatawalu represented Fiji at the 2015 and 2019 World Cup and has consistently been one of Fiji’s best performers. He is also known for his outgoing personality and is a positive influence on the other players.
His club career began at Glasgow in 2012 and played 74 games up until 2015 when he joined Bath in the Gallagher Premiership. A couple years later he returns to the Scottish club and a city he calls his “second home”.
2021 – After nearly a decade at Glasgow over two stints, Matawalu leaves the Warriors. He has played 135 games for the club with 44 tries to his name.
Niko has signed with Montauban in the Pro-D2 as a medical joker.
