Former Fiji playmaker Josh Matavesi first represented the Flying Fijians in 2009. At the time he was the youngest player to do so at only 19. Matavesi was also part of the Fiji U20 side at the 2010 IRB Junior World Championships.
Born in England to an English mother and former Fiji Barbarians rep, Sireli Matavesi, Joshua played his junior rugby in England and was part of the Junior English sides in his teen years.

He was then selected again in 2019 alongside brother Sam Matavesi but would retire from international duties at the end of the tournament with 23 caps to his name. He also played for the Barbarians in 2018 alongside Josua Tuisova and Semi Radradra.
At only 29 Matavesi is always a possibility to represent the Flying Fijians again especially with a new coach in charge.
