Semi Lagivala made his 2nd start at Centre for La Rochelle. They were in Paris this weekend to take on Stade Francais.

After trailing most of the game, they hit the lead in the 77th minute but gave up a crucial scrum penalty at the end of the game, giving the home side a chance to kick a penalty and take the win, which they ultimately did 26-24.

Lagivala was tested defensively, and didn’t have the best afternoon with his hands.

He was shifted to the wing in the 2nd half.

4 carries for 16 metres, 4 tackles with 2 missed, 1 dominant tackle with 2 turnovers lost.

Semi Lagivala’s first month of Top 14 rugby has started off quiet well. He’s started 1 game and played a bench role in his other 4 matches.

Unsurprisingly his best work is with ball in hand, standing and breaking through tackles, strengths he displayed in his days with Mont de Marsan. His defence however has definitely improved, with an efficiency rate of 86%.

Semi Lagivala made his official Top 14 debut when he came off the bench early in the 2nd half for La Rochelle against Bordeaux, replacing Suliasi Vunivalu.

He made 4 carries and was tough to bring down on each occasion, carrying defenders and gaining momentum for his side. A total of 5 defenders beaten and 25 metres.

A solid preseason showing has earned Lagivala his first Top 14 jersey for La Rochelle.

He’s been named on their bench for their season opener against none other than defending champions Bordeaux.

Also named for La Rochelle is Levani Botia at flanker and Suliasi Vunivalu starts on the wing.

Salesi Rayasi will also come off the bench in his first competition match for the home side.
