An athletic backrower with a great offload and high workrate. Sowakula represented the All-Blacks in 2022 and will likely come into contention for a Flying Fijians jersey in July 2025.
Clermont were unplayable in their home match against Castres. They scored 9 tries in a 63-14 demolition of the visiting side.
Pita Gus Sowakula scored his first try of the season in the 60th minute when he crashed over from close range on the back of a lineout maul.
He didn’t shirk any of his usual duties, churning out 14 carries and 9 tackles.
Clermont were beaten in their season opening game against Toulouse.
Pita Gus Sowakula started at Number 8 and put in a solid performance. He made a team high 14 carries for a tough 20 metres, a match high 3 offloads and completed all of his 12 tackle attempts.
A daunting task in week 2 as they travel to La Rochelle.
Clermont were eliminated from the title race by Bayonne 3-20. Sowakula started at Number 8 and racked up 17 tackles, the most in the match and he missed none.
Although not named in the Flying Fijians squad and not yet eligible until mid July, he will likely feature for the National side by end of year.

Clermont put in their best performance of the season against Castres, putting the visitors to the sword 63-14.
Fijian trio Pita Gus Sowakula, Pio Muarua and Alivereti Loalo (pictured) all scored for the home side.
Sowakula went over in the 60th minute from a lineout maul before Muarua scored on virtually the same spot through a pick-and-go in the 74th minute.
3 minutes later Loaloa gathered a neat little grubber behind the Castres defence to score under the posts.
For both Muarua and Loaloa, it's their first competition try for their new club.
Sowakula now joins the Flying Fijians for his first tour with the national team.
