Why playing for the Fijian Drua means so much to Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta

The Fijian Drua will compromise of players sourced locally and abroad. If you tune into the Bunnings NPC you will find the finest New Zealand has to offer at club level.
Current Super Rugby players, former players and those on the fringes, waiting for an opportunity.

“It means everything to me that I get to represent my country & whānau (family) in my first ever Super Rugby experience.”

One such player is the tough, no nonsense Tasman loose forward Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta. A big part of a Champion Tasman side that won back-to-back NPC titles in 2019 and 2020.

When the opportunity to sign with the Drua presented itself, Te Ahiwaru didn’t hesitate as it also meant he could connect with his Fijian culture;
“I’m excited to be a part of and play for the first ever Fijian team in Super Rugby. I’m also really excited to get to know more of my culture and learning the language from the boys and meeting everybody.
It means everything to me that I get to represent my country & whānau (family) in my first ever Super Rugby experience.”

When I asked him how his family responded; “My whānau have all been really supportive with my rugby journey and are all really excited for me. My partner was there with me when I got the phone call and she was so excited for me, also my Mum and Nan are very happy for me.”

Cirikidaveta, whose father hails from Nabaitavo, Naitasiri, aspires to play for the Flying Fijians;
“I would love to hopefully wear the Fijian Jersey in the World Cup coming up.”
